Lottie Mwale (1952 - 18 October 2005) was a Zambian male Light Heavyweight-class boxer born in Wusakile, Zambia. He started his career at Rhokana Amateur Boxing Club in Kitwe in the early 1960s later becoming the first Zambian sportsman to win a Commonwealth gold medal, achieving the feat at the 1974 Commonwealth Games held in Christchurch, New Zealand. At the International Council of Military Sports (CISM) Games in 1976, Zambia dethroned the United States who were the world champions and Mwale, fighting as a middleweight, was voted boxer of the tournament.
Mwale turned professional in 1977, and beat Julius Luipa to win the national light-heavyweight title and two years later knocked out Commonwealth champion Gary Summerhays of Canada in the 10th round in Lusaka. In the same year, he defeated African Boxing Union (ABU) champion Bagayuko Sounkalo of Mali to win the continental title and prepare himself for the World Boxing Council title fight in 1980.
Mwale lost his Commonwealth title to Leslie Stewart of Trinidad and Tobago in Port au Spain in 1985 and soon also lost the African title to Nigeria’s Joe Lasisi. In 1990, won the WBC International title in Lusaka, but lost the belt to United States’ Virgil Hill two years later. His career fight record was: 44 fights won, with 34 knockouts, and lost 9 fights, with 7 ending in knockout.
He died on the 18th of October 2005 after a 7 year battle with Parkinson's disease.
